Cedar Falls in Spalding, part of the Tanglewood Care Home group, was the first Care Home in Lincolnshire to be recruited into the FinCH study. Data capture and upload for a total of 65 residents was carried out over a 10-day period during the initial (baseline) visit. This was reported to be the largest recruitment from a single care home and the research team could have been forgiven for thinking that they may have bitten off more than they could chew!

So what did the management and staff at the home make of the initial visit?
Anita, Cedar Falls Manager said “Cedar Falls has been involved with research in the past and we were excited to be chosen along with 65 other care homes to take part in this piece of research. The Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust FinCH research team were great with us while gathering all the data they required. They fitted their schedule around us and took into account our residents’ needs and staffing availability on the floors. They are a lovely team of ladies! After the initial visit, we are hoping to be randomised to receive the training regarding falls”. Anita added “I would recommend other Care Homes being involved in this research. The initial stages are very busy but the end results will definitely be worth it”.

The study involves data for every resident being collected at 3-month intervals over a 12-month period.
